Winslow’s Hardware Store

Alfred H. Winslow constructed this brick commercial building as his hardware store around 1910, and connected it to the building to its immediate left, which he also owned, around 1923. The fully glazed façade on the second and third stories is an unusual feature for the period, anticipating multi-story glass clad buildings that would come to dominate cities later in the century. The A.H. Winslow Hardware store remained in operation until 1967. The Winslow Block and neighboring buildings have recently undergone a comprehensive renovation, so they can continue to anchor Bennington’s vibrant downtown for generations to come.
