Concerts in the Courtyard
The concerts were a great success this season. We saw over 900 people pass through our gates to enjoy the food, music, kids activities, and good company. Thank you to everyone who came out! Grants and community support enabled us to pay each of the 12 performing groups an average of $320, not including tips. And the weather cooperated splendidly, leaving us with only one concert that needed to be rescheduled. We look forward to hosting this community program again next year.
Musicians, be on the look out for artist applications opening in February.
Last year, in response to COVID, Bennington Museum began a popular outdoor Friday night concert series in the courtyard. The events took place from the beginning of July through Labor Day weekend and represented a beacon of hope for the community. Over the course of the summer more than 450 people visited on Friday evenings to explore the outdoor exhibits, enjoy food by the Avocado Pit, and just relax in the shade of the elm and be socially distant yet connected while listening to some great tunes.
“It reminded us all of what normal times could feel like,” says Director of Advancement, Alexina Jones. “Everyone was very respectful and followed the COVID safety protocols we had in place, but the sense of joy and excitement to be out with other people and around live music was palpable.”
This coming summer, thanks to an anonymous grant, Bennington Museum is pleased to present Concerts in the Courtyard once more. Performances will begin June 4th and run through September 3rd, 2021, and will be free of charge to the public.

All events take place from 5-7pm.
Concerts will be cancelled in the event of a 60% chance of rain by 2pm on Fridays. Check our facebook page for updates.
New! The Museum ABCs program will provide children’s activities on Fridays during Concerts in the Courtyard. Kids of all ages will find a fun makerspace in the pavilion to create art based on art and objects featured in the Museum. Activities will be provided free of charge with a suggested donation to support the most excellent art supplies.
The Stages in the Sun initiative is a partnership between the Vermont Recreation & Parks Association, the Vermont Arts Council, and the Vermont Department of Tourism & Marketing, to promote two of the best things Vermont has to offer: incredible artists and the great outdoors. We thank the Vermont Community Foundation for their donation to help sponsor this and other Stages in the Sun events through a Covid-19 Response Grant. Please check out the Stages in the Sun calendar online at Vermont Vacation dot com to find more great outdoors arts events.
