YMCA Building at corner of Main and School Streets
The YMCA building was constructed at the corner of Main and School Streets in 1906 and opened for use in May of 1907, around the time this photo was taken. The main floor housed an office and gymnasium, the second floor had a kitchen and banquet room, there were six dormitory rooms on the third floor, while the basement featured two club rooms, shower and locker rooms, and two bowling lanes. The building was an integral part of the community, serving 100s of people daily, until it was replaced by the current building in Memorial Park in 1970. This building was razed in 1972, stirring an interest in local historic preservation.
