Norman Rockwell designed and developed the compositions for his images meticulously, typically developing a full-scale charcoal drawing as the final step before beginning the full-color painting in oils. This highly finished study drawing of A Scout is Helpful was given to the little girl who modeled and has remained in Bennington with her family up to the present day.  This drawing has been on long-term loan to Bennington Museum, and the Museum is currently in the process of purchasing it for the permanent collection.

That’s where YOU come in! The Museum has committed over a quarter of the purchase price already. This year we would like to put just shy of $19,000 towards the purchase, which comes to $361 for each week of the year.

Please consider making a gift today to ensure that A Scout is Helpful will continue to be enjoyed by Bennington County residents and visitors for generations to come.
