Milton Avery Presentation at the Hefflon House, next to Historic Jamaica (VT) Town Hall

Join us at the Hefflon House, 3751 VT Route 30 (next to Historic Jamaica Town Hall) Jamica, VT, when Jamie Franklin, curator of the Bennington Museum presents Milton Avery's Vermont. It was the extended summer season, often leading into fall, in the small adjacent villages of Rawsonville and Jamaica, that one would find Milton Avery, with his wife Sally Michel and daughter March.

Film Screening: Peter and John by Jay Craven - Set in 1872 Nantucket, Peter and John tells the story of two brothers whose relationship strains when the younger one receives news of a strange inheritance and both brothers become attracted to the same mysterious young woman who arrives on their island.

Museum ABCs: Tree I.D.

Museum ABCs is back for another year of fun! Children ages 3 to 5 and their adult caregivers are invited to join us for an hour of exploration, stories, and art. This month we will explore Milton Avery's Vermont and check out the many ways he painted the trees of the Green Mountains.

Looking at the Civil War through textiles allows us to understand the experience of the war in different terms than the usual analysis of battle strategy and heralding of military heroes.

Photography and Reality, A Discussion with Duane Michals

Moonlight in Vermont

Enjoy popular jazz favorites from the 1930s and 1940s, inspired by Milton Avery's Vermont (on view through November 6). Kerry Ryer-Parke, Bruce Williamson, Mowgli Giannitti, and Peter King have selected tunes from Avery's Vermont summers and will present them in a free concert. Music at the Museum is made possible by Alison Nowak and Robert Cane.

Road Trip to Jamaica

Meet us in Jamaica (Vermont, that is!). See the landscapes that inspired Milton Avery during his extended summers in Vermont. Drive your own vehicle to Jamaica where you will meet up with Bennington Museum curator, Jamie Franklin, who will be your guide for the day. Visit the Jamaica Historical Foundation, and stop at locations in town that will broaden your understanding of the artist's experience.
