Scrapbooks: Hidden Treasures
March 16, 2025 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
a Bennington Historical Society presentation
This program will take place at Bennington Museum (even though our galleries are closed).
While nothing is ever actually “hidden” in the Museum’s collection, there are plenty of items that are rarely seen or tend to go unnoticed. In this program, Bill Morgan will delve into some of those objects – scrapbooks that were assembled in Bennington during the 19th and early 20th centuries, highlighting recent additions to the collections of the Bennington Museum. Morgan will trace the history of scrapbooking and show examples that depict the wide-range of interests of local citizens over the years, from performances, concerts and lectures, to circuses and personal memorabilia.
Bill Morgan is an author, archivist, and bibliographer living in Bennington. He has written more than 40 books dealing with history and literature including: I Celebrate Myself: The Somewhat Private Life of Allen Ginsberg (Viking Press) and The Typewriter Is Holy: The Complete Uncensored History of the Beat Generation (Simon & Schuster). He has worked extensively as an archivist for Allen Ginsberg, Oliver Sacks, and Arthur Miller. He currently serves as the secretary of the Bennington Historical Society and is the author of Bennington and the Civil War (History Press).
