Curatorial Intern
This position is open to current high school students from Mount Anthony Union High School or the Southwest Vermont Tech program. The focus of the Curatorial Internship is to provide operation support to the Bennington Museum curatorial department while getting practical experience working with the collections and all areas of non-profit administration.

The Curatorial Intern will gain experience with exhibition research, handling historic objects, writing descriptions, and communicating some of what you learn to the public through multiple mediums. This internship provides an opportunity to make connections with museum professionals, and through it you will gain invaluable experience utilizing a variety of skills to bring specific projects to completion under the guidance of Bennington Museum staff.

Qualifications and Experience:
What skills do you need to work in the Museum world? You likely already have more than a few under your belt. If you are a good writer and excel in your History or English classes you might be great at writing descriptions of objects, proof-reading newsletters, and down the road at writing grants. If you love to design tiktok videos, you might be wonderful at creating content for our social media feeds. If you like to keep your locker organized and your room clean, you might really enjoy working in our Collections storage. If you enjoy talking to people and are comfortable interacting with all different age groups, our Education or Visitor’s Services departments might be something you can try out too. Whatever experience you do have, we guarantee that some part of it will be relevant to a Museum career. Most importantly though, we are looking for responsible and reliable individuals who can follow directions, are excited about our shared cultural history, and who can think and work independently and creatively. If this sounds like you, we hope you will apply, and we can teach you the rest!

Internship Compensation: $2,500 stipend for approximately two months at 26 hours per week.
School Credit must be coordinated through a college advisor.

Application due: May 15.

All applicants will be notified in early June.

You will be asked to provide two references from recent teachers. We suggest that you check
in with your teachers first so that they know we will be following up with them for
recommendations.
