David Orr on Robert Frost

Bennington Museum, in partnership with the Robert Frost Stone House Museum at Bennington College, presents an evening with The New York Times Book Review poetry critic David Orr, author of The Road Not Taken, Finding America in the Poem that Everyone Loves and Almost Everyone Gets Wrong.

Orr will offer a fresh approach to the poetry of Robert Frost, in particular his beloved poem “The Road Not Taken,” and will share his ideas about demystifying the process of reading poetry.

This lecture is made possible by a grant to the Robert Frost Stone House Museum at Bennington College from VT Humanities and will take place as part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Frost’s move to Shaftsbury, VT.

About the Presenter

David Orr is Professor of Poetry and the Practice of Criticism at Rutgers University and a longtime poetry critic for the New York Times Book Review, among other publications. His first book, Beautiful & Pointless: A Guide to Modern Poetry, was named one of the twenty best books of 2011 by the Chicago Tribune; his subsequent books have been covered in outlets ranging from The Wall Street Journal to NPR to PBS NewsHour. He is the winner of the Nona Balakian Citation for Excellence in Reviewing from the National Book Critics Circle and the Editor’s Prize for Reviewing from Poetry magazine. A native South Carolinian, David lives Princeton, New Jersey, with his wife and daughter.
