Exhibition & Closed Bid Auction

The end of 2020 will bring to a close a year markedly different from any other. Bennington Museum intends to focus on the brighter days ahead beginning with the winter exhibition and closed-bid auction, “Vermont Utopias: Imagining the Future” which is presented as part of a statewide exhibition initiative of the Vermont Curators Group. For the exhibition 25 local and regional artists have been invited to create original pieces that reflect a personal vision of Vermont’s future. These unique creations will be on view from November 27 through December 28th, both at the Museum and online.

The Closed-Bid Auction of exhibited artwork will open at 10am on November 27 and will close at 4pm on December 21. The opening bid on each piece will be decided by the artist and the sale price of the work will be split equally between the artist and the Museum. Bids may be submitted at the Museum or via an online bid form, and the winners will be announced on December 22nd. Pieces may be claimed before December 25th, in time for the holidays, although the show itself will remain on view for another weekend.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for the community to support both the Museum and the local artists, in addition to collecting some lovely pieces to decorate their homes,” says Director of Advancement, Alexina Jones. “The show has been a highlight of the holiday season in years past, and this year, with the digital format, we hope to reach an even larger audience in addition to people from out of state who cannot visit due to COVID restrictions on travel.”

Virtual Trivia Night Benefit

Also based on the Vermont Utopias theme, on Saturday, December 12th at 7pm Bennington Museum will host a Virtual Trivia Night Benefit, in place of the annual gala.

The trivia event is presented on a Zoom platform with a professional host, and is meant to be a fun event that the whole family can enjoy. Registrants may request to play with other players on a specific team, or will be assigned to random teams to compete to for bragging rights and prizes such as a virtual wine-tasting event for 12 by couch + cork and gift certificates to the Museum store. Teams also have the opportunity to win money for the Museum with each correct answer as some corporate sponsors have pledged support based on their assigned team’s New England trivia prowess. No pressure!

Tickets On Sale Now

Early bird tickets as well as food and beverage selections are available until December 1st and may be purchased online. RSVP by midnight, December 11.

Proceeds from both of the closed-bid auction and the virtual trivia night will support engaging community and educational programming in the coming year. The Museum invites those who are not able to attend the end of year fundraising events to consider making a donation in honor of Vermont Utopias instead. Together, we will imagine an amazing future.
