Counterpoint Vocal Ensemble
Songs of Peace – from Vermont and around the World
Bennington Museum is pleased present Songs of Peace from Vermont and around the World performed by Counterpoint Vocal Ensemble. This a cappella concert includes over twenty songs including favorites by Pete Seeger. Inspired by the 125th anniversary of the Bennington Battle Monument and the 100th anniversary of WWI, this concert includes songs of pe
ace written during times of war. The twelve singers in Counterpoint perform under the direction of Nathaniel G. Lew. Sponsored by Alison Nowak and Robert Cane, all concerts are free and open to the public. Reservations are not required. This concert is on Saturday, May 13 at 2:00 pm in the Ada Paresky Education Center and Paul Paresky Court of the Bennington Museum. Admission to the galleries is not included, but is always free for Museum members. “The Museum is entering its third year of these wonderful concerts. Having met with huge success, you can look forward to enjoying high quality music for years to come,” stated Deana Mallory, Director of Public Programs.
Founded in 2000 by Robert De Cormier, Counterpoint is a nationally recognized, Vermont-based, professional vocal ensemble dedicated to performing choral chamber music and engaging student musicians to enhance the cultural life of communities in Vermont and beyond. Praised for their clarity, skill and sophisticated musical expressiveness, the ensemble presents concerts throughout New England and has toured the Midwest. Counterpoint has recorded seven CDs with Albany Records, and four independently. The ensemble’s repertory includes folksongs from around the world, African-American spirituals, sacred music of many traditions, and classical works. Included in their concert on May 13 will be songs by Pete Seeger including All Mixed Up (arranged by De Cormier), Oh Had I a Golden Thread (arranged by Nathaniel G. Lew), and Ring Like a Bell (words by Malvina Reynolds, arranged by De Cormier).
Performers in Counterpoint are Sopranos Miranda Bergmeier, Colleen Flynn Campbell, Anne D’Olivo; Altos Rebecca Bailey, Maria Lamson, Linda Radtke; Tenors Charlie Briggs, Neil Cerutti, Adam Hall; and Bass Stephen Falbel, Zeb McLellan, Neil Wacek. About the Museum
Bennington Museum is located at 75 Main Street (Route 9), Bennington, in The Shires of Vermont. The museum is open Thursday through Tuesday 10 am to 5 pm. June through October, the museum is open daily (closed July 4). It is wheelchair accessible. Regular admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors and students over 18.
