The end of 2020 will bring to a close a year markedly different from any other. Bennington Museum intends to focus on the brighter days ahead beginning with the winter exhibition and closed-bid auction, “Vermont Utopias: Imagining the Future” which is presented as part of a statewide exhibition initiative of the Vermont Curators Group. For the exhibition 25 local and regional artists have been invited to create original pieces that reflect a personal vision of Vermont’s future. These unique creations will be on view from November 27 through December 28th, both at the Museum and online.
The Closed-Bid Auction of exhibited artwork will open at 10am on November 27 and will close at 4pm on December 21. The opening bid on each piece will be decided by the artist and the sale price of the work will be split equally between the artist and the Museum. Bids may be submitted at the Museum or via an online bid form, and the winners will be announced on December 22nd. Pieces may be claimed before December 25th, in time for the holidays, although the show itself will remain on view for another weekend.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for the community to support both the Museum and the local artists, in addition to collecting some lovely pieces to decorate their homes,” says Director of Advancement, Alexina Jones. “The show has been a highlight of the holiday season in years past, and this year, with the digital format, we hope to reach an even larger audience in addition to people from out of state who cannot visit due to COVID restrictions on travel.”
