Group and Private Tours

The quintessential New England town of Bennington is surrounded by spectacular, unspoiled natural beauty. It offers a blend of old and new, including museums, attractions, art and antique galleries, covered bridges, historic walking tours, specialty stores and boutiques, quality restaurants, and lodgings to suit any taste, from quaint inns and B & B’s to national chain hotels. 

Travel restrictions to Vermont are loosening! Except for international traveltravel no longer requires testing or quarantine. See the complete requirements for additional information. Currently, Bennington Museum requires unvaccinated visitors to use a face covering while inside the Museum, and we strongly encourage the use of face masks by all visitors while inside.

Welcome to the Bennington Museum

Our docents make it a priority to meet each group visiting the museum with Vermont hospitality and offer a variety of ways to enjoy your time here. Customized tours can be designed to suit the interests and time allowed for your group’s visit by including particular exhibitions and tours of the area.  

Advance reservations are required. For booking information, and special options, please contact our Group Tour Director by email or 802-447-1571 ext. 203. Whether you are a full coach, or a small family group, we look forward to welcoming you to the Bennington Museum.

COVID POLICIES:

Face masks are encourage at all times when in the building. Unvaccinated visitors (including children ages 2 and older) are required to wear a face mask.

Hand sanitizing stations will be set throughout the Museum. All hard surfaces and bathrooms will be thoroughly cleaned daily.

GROUP TOURS

All group tours require a minimum of 10 people and must be scheduled at least 2 weeks in advance.

For all tours the bus driver and group tour leader receive complimentary admission and a 10% discount in the Museum Store.

Self-Guided Tours allow your group to explore the museum galleries at their own pace and will include a group orientation by a Museum staff member. Trained personnel are available throughout the museum to answer questions or help direct visitors.

Price: $9.50 per person.
Allow 1 1/2 hours for this visit to the museum.

Guided Museum Tours can be arranged for the entire museum or particular exhibitions.  Experienced Group Tour Guides well-versed in the changing and permanent exhibitions can add interesting details to your group’s visit.  A Guided Museum Tour can be custom-tailored to meet your timeline, but we recommend planning 1 1/2 hours for your tour in order to include time for free exploration and a visit to the Museum Store.

Price: $12 per person
Allow 1 to 2 hours for this tour.

Old Bennington Step-On Tour expands the visit to include many of the attractions in Old Bennington. In addition to a guided tour of the museum’s galleries, one of our Group Tour Guides will board the coach to guide your group as they explore the Bennington Monument, Old First Church, Robert Frost’s grave site, and, if time permits, a covered bridge, providing information about the history of the area and thereby adding depth to the Bennington experience. Custom tours can also be arranged to fit your needs and schedule.

Price: $18 per person includes museum admission and our Group Tour Guide. Price does not include admission to the Old First Church or the Monument.
Allow 2 ½ to 3 ½ hours for this tour, including the Museum portion.

Lunch at the Museum
Many group tour leaders have expressed an interest in remaining on the museum property for lunch. We offer two options. Picnic tables on our grounds can accommodate up to 35 people. It is available at no charge with a reservation.

Pre-order boxed lunches from Elm Street Market! All orders must be made and paid for directly with the caterer at least two weeks in advance of your visit.  Delivery will be made to the museum. If 30 or more lunches are ordered, the driver and guide receive lunch at no cost.

PRIVATE TOURS

Private tours are for groups of 9 or fewer people and must be scheduled at least 2 weeks in advance for a guided tour or 2 days in advance for a self-guided tour.

Guided Museum Tours can be arranged for the entire museum or particular exhibitions. Experienced guides well-versed in the changing and permanent exhibitions can add interesting details to your visit.

Price: $180 total
Allow 1 to 2 hours for this tour.

If a Museum member books the tour, the reduced price will be $70 total.

Behind the Scenes Tour will allow small groups to visit our Collections Storage area to see our Collections Manager at work.  This will be added on to a regular tour and will be lead by either the Collections Manager or the Museum Curator.

Price: $360 total and includes admission (should you wish to return during the Museum’s open hours during the rest of the day).
Allow 2.5 hours for this tour.

If a Museum member books the tour, the reduced price will be $250 total.

Meet the Executive Director and enjoy a full tour of the Museum, as well as a peek into storage.

Price: $450 total, including admission (should you wish to return during the Museum’s open hours during the rest of the day).
Allow 2.5 hours for this tour.

If a Museum member books the tour, the reduced price will be $340 total.

Feeling Thirsty?

Finish the experience with a cold Vermont beer or cider.

Price: Add $10/person to any of the above tour options. Bennington Museum will provide you with the a beverage of your choice and a box of Vermont Maple cookies to be enjoyed anywhere on our grounds after you finish your tour.

Payment and Reservations
Payment by a major credit card, cash, or company check is accepted.

Reservations are to be made at least two weeks in advance for all guided tours and two days in advance for a self-guided tour.

Accessibility
Every aspect of Bennington Museum is accessible for those in a wheelchair or with walkers. The museum has a wheelchair available for use on a first-come basis.
