Project Description

NBOSS at the Museum,

June 18 – November 12 2022

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the North Bennington Outdoor Sculpture Show. Originally known as the North Bennington Art Park, the exhibition debuted in 1998 on the lawn in front of what was then Joe McGovern’s masonry shop, adjacent to the post office, in the village of North Bennington. Over the last 25 years NBOSS (pronounced “N”-Boss), as it is now lovingly known, has become one of the region’s premiere arts events of the summer/fall season, featuring work by some of the best artists from the Bennington area, the state of Vermont, and throughout the northeast region.

In addition to sculptures by over 40 artists scattered throughout the village of North Bennington, an additional 25+ artists will display their work on our beautiful 10-acre property in Old Bennington for the third consecutive year, including many who have contributed to NBOSS since the exhibition’s early years.

Save the Date!

The opening celebration party for NBOSS, will take place on Saturday, June 18th, 4:00 – 8:00pm at the Vermont Arts Exchange (VAE) 48 Main Street.

This event will feature 2022 resident artist Suprina who hails from Poughkeepsie N.Y., and creates artwork about the environment.  Her performance in North Bennington will concentrate on the impact of plastics and feature community residents who have been taking part in several free, costume making workshops. A short procession will take place around 5pm at the opening party on Saturday along with a welcome by the North Bennington curator, Joe Chirchirillo.  Suprina’s installation sculpture titled “Faux Forest” will begin a week earlier on VAE’s front lawn.  The artist in residence program is possible with gracious support by the Fund for North Bennington.

This year’s celebration also welcomes Bennington favorites musicians, Sam Clement, guitar, vocals and Matt Scott, bass, vocals. As “Sidekick Powers”,  the duo is pleased to invite keyboard player Dustin Deluke (Wild Adriatic, Saratoga, NY), trumpet player Alex Wolston (The Jennifer Hartswick Band, Kansas City, MO) and drummer Troy Hubbard (Viscus, Morrisville, VT) to join in the musical reverie. There will be homemade Indian cuisine by Shanta Gosh of the Corner of India to satisfy our appetites!

On Thursday, August 25, 5:00 – 7:00pm, the Museum will host an artist reception and screening of a short documentary film celebrating NBOSS’ past, present, and future, and a live performance by John Umphlett, Flipping One Over a Bush, first performed 22 years ago at the 3rd NBOSS in 2000.

Both of these events are free to the public.
