DESCRIPTION:In 2006\, Vermont director Jay Craven released Disappearances\, a film starring Kris Kristofferson and based on the Howard Frank Mosher novel of the same name. Now celebrating 20 years since its release\, we bring you a screening of Disappearances including a discussion with Craven following the film. The themes in Disappearances relate directly to Vermont Vice\, on view from May 30 through November 1\, 2026. \nTickets are $15 for Bennington Museum Members and $20 for Not-Yet-Members. The Boston Globe calls Sirsy “The little band with the big sound.” Fans call them “the little band with a big heart.” Hailing from NY\, SIRSY plays compelling singer-songwriter rock and pop with a charming intensity\, a bit of sass\, lots of soul\, and loads of heart. They write honest\, engaging songs that are instantly relatable and catchy. The Times Union says “Sirsy’s clever\, smart songs have more hooks than a tackle box”. Sirsy’s passionate and down to earth live shows also include storytelling and even some nerdy jokes. They can somehow make an audience sing along\, dance\, laugh\, and cry – all at the same show. \nMelanie Krahmer’s passionate and immediately arresting vocals are sultry and seductive. They can be a floaty whisper or at times raspy and rocking – with a little bit of a tongue-in-cheek tone\, as if she’s singing with a wink. She has “one of the most powerful and flexible voices you’ll ever hear”. Mel is also the band’s drummer (and featured in Modern Drummer). She simultaneously plays bass on a keyboard with her drumstick. Live\, she also plays piano\, melodica\, and the occasional badass flute solo too. Mel’s bandmate\, co-writer\, & husband/bestie is Rich Libutti. Rich masterfully plays a well-loved and road worn Rickenbacker through a pedal board full of vintage effects. He sounds like 3 guitarists all on his own. SXSW music blog says “The guitar player is flawless and raw. Clean enough to be enjoyed\, and just edgy enough to make you grin.” Rich also plays bass (and at live shows often does it on a pedal board with his feet).\nThese 2 multi-instrumentalists manage to sound like a full band and somehow do it all with big smiles on their faces. It’s clear they love what they do. And that love is contagious when you see them live. You can’t help smiling along with them. With song lyrics that center around empowerment and resilience\, it’s no surprise that Sirsy’s fans have supported the duo through the pandemic\, over a dozen records\, 20+ years of touring\, and Mel’s 2 bouts with cancer. Every show is like a celebration for this couple and their fans. Come celebrate life with them! \nSirsy’s warmed stages for Brandi Carlile\, Maroon 5\, Train\, Grace Potter\, Joan Jett\, Cheap Trick\, Collective Soul\, Blues Traveler\, Spindoctors\, Adam Ezra Group\, Lifehouse & many more. They’ve had songs on the hit tv show “Shameless”\, the NFL\, HBO\, MTV\, and PBS. Their latest single\, “Stupid Little Heart” (Jan 7\, 2025) debuted at #10 on the folk chart. They are regulars on NPR. In 2024\, Sirsy was given the lauded ‘Thomas Edison Music Award’ for “rock/pop artist of the year” and “Record of the year” and in 2023 “solo/duo artist of the year”. Their last several records were produced by Grammy-Winner Paul Q Kolderie. The SXSW Music Blog says “Sirsy’s not just a 2 piece but a head scratching WOW!” And the Houston Music Blog says “Sirsy makes edgy feel-good music that’s fun to watch. You must see them live!” \n“SIRSY is your favorite band\, you just don’t know it yet.” – Rochester City Newspaper.

DESCRIPTION:Bennington Museum holds an extraordinary collection of Vermont Coppers\, the unique currency minted during Vermont’s years as an independent republic (1777–1791). DESCRIPTION:Katie Beck presents an afternoon of music – classical\, crossover\, and more – taking inspiration from the Museum’s exhibition\, Vermont Vice on view now through November 1\, 2026. \nHailed by the Boston Globe as “balmy-voiced” and for her “uniformly excellent” performances\, mezzo-soprano Katherine Beck has performed with operas\, orchestras\, and symphonies throughout the country\, from Los Angeles to Florida and everywhere in between\, but she calls Bennington “home.” While best known for operatic roles such as Marquise Melibea in Il viaggio a Reims and Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia\, Katie’s repertoire also include jazz\, showtunes\, folk music and more. Kaite is a winner of the prestigious George London Foundation Award\, among others. She earned her Master of Music degree from the Thornton School of Music at the University of California\, in which she sang Béatrice in Béatrice and Bénédict and Sesto in La clemenza di Tito. Katie lives in Shaftsbury\, Vermont with her husband and son. DESCRIPTION:Join the Bennington Museum Board of Trustees for our annual meeting where we will review all the successes of Bennington Museum in fiscal year 2026 that you have helped to make possible\, and discuss exciting projects slated for the coming year. \nAt this meeting\, which is open to members and non-members alike\, we will also be presenting the Arnold Ricks Award which is given to an individual or organization in recognition of exceptional contributions to the Bennington community and Bennington Museum. \nThis year we are pleased to honor Tom Dee\, recently retired President and Chief Executive Officer of Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC).  Under his leadership\, the health system attained twelve consecutive years of positive operating performance\, became an institutional member of Dartmouth Health\, and received numerous state and national awards for quality of care\, community leadership and workplace excellence.  During his tenure\, Tom also made sure to give back to the community by directing SVMC’s philanthropic priorities in ways that made a local difference at Bennington Museum and beyond. SUMMARY:White's Stoneware\, Turned and Molded
DESCRIPTION:The White family produced salt-glazed stoneware in Utica starting with Noah White in 1838. In this presentation Fred Capozzella will discuss the history of that pottery from its founding through the end of stoneware production in 1907 and the final closing in 1910. He will also discuss the role of the Erie Canal and the canal system in the creation and success of White’s Utica. In addition to the illustrated presentation\, Fred will be bringing along examples of White’s Utica products from his personal collection. \nFred Capozzella is a retired educator from the Utica City School District. He is a collector of Utica (NY) related memorabilia\, with a focus on Utica stoneware. SUMMARY:Left to Their Own Devices
DESCRIPTION:Part performance\, part participatory sound experience\, “Left to Their Own Devices” features a series of interactive musical mechanisms that invite and respond to audience interaction. Wander the Museum at your own pace\, in your own path\, and engage with the devices and performers. \nThe Devices\nTintinnalogia – a mechanical carillon – is inspired by the British tradition of change ringing in which the permutations of eight bells are exhaustively rung out. The chaotic-sounding results are often heard in wedding bells. \nExtant uses the sextant the artist’s grandfather used as he sailed to Tahiti. The sextant\, a classic navigation tool\, is based on imprecise science\, relying on where you thought you once were to predict your current position. Extant uses the ancient tool and modern sensors and surround sound to create an immersive installation about celestial navigation amidst rising tides. \nHeterodyne is inspired by the inventor Leon Theramin’s dance platform called the Terpsitone\, and his 1936 visit to Bennington College. Heterodyne translates movement into sound\, using one soundwave to “read” another – technology used in early spy devices and in the theremin\, a contactless electronic musical instrument named for its inventor. \nThese are just some of the unique and interactive devices that will be part of this engaging musical experience. \nNicholas Brooke creates music across disciplines\, from collages of recordings with live theater\, to home-built instrumentariums inspired by gamelan. Brooke’s works have been featured across the U.S. and Europe\, at Mass MoCA\, HERE\, Merkin Hall\, Baryshnikov Arts Center\, the MATA Series\, and the Spoleto Festival\, and have been performed by the Bang-on-a-Can All-Stars\, Talujon\, Speculum Musicae\, Orchestra 2001\, the Paul Dresher Ensemble\, the Nash Ensemble of London\, and Sekar Anu. He has received Guggenheim and Rockefeller Foundation awards\, and multiple residencies including Djerassi\, MacDowell\, Bogliasco\, and Bellagio. Originally a clarinettist\, he is also an avid instrument builder\, and researcher of early musical automata. During a two-year fellowship to Central Java\, he studied gamelan and collaborated on musical projects with Javanese composers\, dancers\, and visual artists. He holds degrees in music composition and philosophy from Oberlin\, and a Ph.D from Princeton. DESCRIPTION:Take a tour of the Bennington Centre Cemetery with Bennington Museum curator\, Jamie Franklin.\nHave you ever wondered what stories lie in the cemetery behind the Old First Church? This guided tour starts in the Museum’s Early Vermont gallery\, where you’ll see the headstone for Jedidiah Dewey\, Bennington’s first pastor\, carved by Frederick Manning\, and learn about the earliest gravestones carved in Bennington. The tour continues in the Bennington Centre Cemetery\, where Jamie will share the stories of some of the people buried there and introduce you to the works of some of the region’s early headstone carvers. \nWear good walking shoes and be prepared for some uphill walking and uneven terrain. We recommend bringing water to drink and applying sunscreen and bug spray. \nTickets are $20 for Bennington Museum members\, $27 for Not-Yet-Members and available for purchase below. SUMMARY:Bridges of Bennington County
DESCRIPTION:a Bennington Historical Society presentation \nVermont is home to the third highest number of covered bridges in the United States\, after Pennsylvania and Ohio. If you look at the number per square mile\, Vermont ranks number one. There are five of them right here in Bennington County – three in Bennington alone! These bridges are part of Vermont’s identity\, captured in paintings\, the subject of ghost stories\, and part of many of our daily commutes. In this presentation\, local researchers will share what they know about our county’s beautiful and historic covered bridges. \nAvis Hayden lives in Sunderland\, on property that adjoins the Chiselville Covered Bridge. She has a curiosity about local history\, spurred on by her genealogical research involving Vermont residents. She holds a Certificate from Boston University in Genealogy. She volunteers at Bennington Museum’s Regional History Room and assists with projects at the Russell Collection (Arlington/Sunderland/Sandgate).   \nDavid Pilachowski has lived in Bennington for 25 years\, worked in college and university libraries\, and has long been interested in history. He volunteers in Bennington Museum’s Regional History Room (RHR) and is a Museum Trustee. He was one of several people involved for the past several years in reorganizing and cataloging the RHR collection. Through that work\, he became aware of Professor Louis Puffer’s remarkable collection of covered bridge materials and associated resources donated to the RHR. \nsupported by

The Battle of Bennington was one of the most significant battles of the War and a moral victory that showed the Patriots that they could stand up to the British and German forces. \nThis is a certified half-marathon course and will be chip timed. \nAll funds raised from this race will benefit programming at Bennington Museum.
