DESCRIPTION:CONCERTS IN THE COURTYARD\nWe are pleased to announce that Bennington Museum has received an anonymous grant once more for 2022\, plus additional support from the Golub Foundation. Performances will begin June 3rd and run through September 2nd\, 2022\, and will be free of charge. \nAll events take place from 5-7pm. \nPlease bring your own blankets or lawn chairs! \nThe Avocado Pit will set up shop in front of the Museum’s gates\, serving delicious tacos\, beer and wine. \nIn the event of rain\, the event will be cancelled by 2pm on Fridays. Check our facebook page for updates. \nMuseum educators will provide free children’s activities during Concerts in the Courtyard. Kids of all ages will find a fun makerspace at the picnic tables where they can create art based on art and objects featured in the Museum. \nBelle-Skinner\nBelle-Skinner is a dark nostalgic singer-songwriter based in upstate New York and Brooklyn. With a hauntingly beautiful\, lilting soprano and innate sense of melody she crafts tales of songbirds\, sirens and desert nomads – nuanced and layered stories which bridge the gap between past and present. Though her influences cover a broad range of genres – from French chansons and Russian folk to contemporary alt-pop and rock – her voice often draws comparisons to the likes of Joni Mitchell\, Jeff Buckley\, Angel Olsen\, and early St. Vincent. \nOpening for acts such as Mitski\, Cautious Clay\, Sean Rowe\, Mikaela Davis\, Saint Saviour (Groove Armada)\, Bill Ryder-Jones (Arctic Monkeys)\, Joy Ike\, Winterpills\, and Heather Maloney\, she has performed at venerated venues like The Linda Performing Arts Center\, Proctor’s Theatre\, Rocky Mountain Folks Festival\, and the Roundhouse Theatre in London. \nIn 2015 she was a finalist at the Telluride Troubadour Competition; a showcasing songwriter on the main-stage at Rocky Mountain Folks Festival in Lyons\, CO; a semi-finalist in The 2015 Great American Songwriting Contest; a finalist in July 2016’s SolarFest Songwriter Showcase; a showcasing artist at August 2016’s MusikFest\, the country’s largest free music festival; and a performer at Brooklyn’s famous Northside Festival. \n[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDPbdOtgtH4&list=PLLH9j5FBy2MIDY6mg85of4NBTFHPNxTuh&index=2[/embedyt]

Kids of all ages will find a fun makerspace at the picnic tables where they can create art based on art and objects featured in the Museum. \nThe Outcrops\nFrom the woods of Northern New Jersey\, the Outcrops bring original blues-infused rock’n’roll. The four-piece band was formed in 2016 by lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Cassidy Rain & lead guitarist Bryan Schroeder. As a singer\, Cassidy has been compared to Bonnie Raitt and Susan Tedeschi but her raw sensibility as front person could as easily bring comparisons to blues legends like Howlin Wolf or Muddy Waters. Bryan’s playing falls somewhere between Duane Allman and Derek Trucks\, as many fans have pointed out. Bryan has also noted Jerry Garcia as a major influence. His long flowing lead lines throughout songs intertwine with Cassidy’s vocal phrases to create a very melodic sound that sets the tone for The Outcrops. The rhythm section of the band includes Jason Casanovas on bass and Max Adler on drums. SUMMARY:Manchester Music Festival Young Artists Concert
DESCRIPTION:Manchester Music Festival Young Artists Concert\nWe are pleased to welcome the Young Artists of Manchester Music Festival to the Bennington Museum. \nThese talented musicians\, ages 18-26\, will spend the summer honing their craft under the tutelage of MMF’s guest faculty artists as part of their full-scholarship chamber music intensive with the Festival. This year’s class hail from eight different countries\, and have studied at some of the most prestigious music institutions in the world. \nThe MMF Young Artists Program provides these rising stars the opportunity to study and perform chamber music at a high level\, and to benefit from the outstanding musical guidance that the illustrious artist faculty offer on a daily basis. During their five-week stay with Manchester Music Festival\, students study several chamber masterworks\, receive daily coaching sessions by the faculty artists\, participate in public masterclasses\, and receive private lessons.  \nThe concert is free\, but donations to support the MMF Young Artists Program can be made before or after the concert (cash or check). The performance will take place in the Paresky Wing on the 2nd floor of the Museum. Seating begins at 1:30 and the concert will begin promptly at 2:00. Performances will begin June 3rd and run through September 2nd\, 2022\, and will be free of charge. \nAll events take place from 5-7pm. \nPlease bring your own blankets or lawn chairs! \nThe Avocado Pit will set up shop in front of the Museum’s gates\, serving delicious tacos\, beer and wine. \nIn the event of rain\, the event will be cancelled by 2pm on Fridays. Check our facebook page for updates. \nMuseum educators will provide free children’s activities during Concerts in the Courtyard. Kids of all ages will find a fun makerspace at the picnic tables where they can create art based on art and objects featured in the Museum. \nMike’s Wives\nJulie Shea & Sonya Keough are a spin off of the popular local band\, The Julie Shea Band. MIKE’S WIVES bring you an eclectic acoustic mix. Julie’s guitar playing and soulful vocals are complimented by Sonya’s flare with a slap-top cajon and other interesting percussion. NY Blues Hall of Fame bluesman Mark Tolstrup and sultry Texas singer Jill Burnham come together where the Delta meets the Rio Grande. Over a haunting slide guitar their voices soar and blend in harmony. Mark and Jill bring a fresh original interpretation to the earliest roots of the blues. Their original songs deal with both the hard realties of life and the joys of being alive. DESCRIPTION:The Enduring Mystery of the Paula Welden Case\nA Bennington Historical Society Presentation\nin partnership with the Bennington Free Library\n\nThe Bennington Free Library and the Bennington Museum Historical Society present “The Enduring Mystery of the Paula Welden Case\,” a panel discussion with Q&A on Sunday\, September 18th at 2 p.m. in the Ada Paresky Education Center at Bennington Museum. \nIn December 1946\, Bennington College student Paula Jean Welden disappeared; the case remains unsolved\, but local and national interest abounds. Paula Welden’s disappearance is a regular query at the Bennington Free Library and at the Bennington Museum Regional History Room\, and last year it was included in Parade’s “50 Strangest Unsolved Mysteries of All Time.” \nThe panel will include Michael C. Dooling\, author of Clueless in New England: The Unsolved Disappearances of Paula Welden\, Connie Smith and Katherine Hull; Lori Lamothe\, true crime author currently researching Paula Welden’s disappearance; and Erin Kate Ryan\, author of Quantum Girl Theory\, a novel based on Paula Welden’s disappearance. The panel presents the work of authors with different backgrounds intrigued by the same subject and allows the local community to explore and reconsider its history. \nSupported in part by Vermont Humanities. DESCRIPTION:Regional History Room Reopening\nWhile the Museum was closed in January\, February\, and March\, volunteers were hard at work evaluating\, reorganizing\, and cataloging the resources in the Regional History Room (Research Library). Join them to celebrate its reopening\, learn the history of the RHR\, and find out what resources are available within its walls. Start with a short presentation in the Ada Paresky Education Center. Tyler Resch will speak about the long history of the RHR and Bob Tegart and Dave Pilachowski will share what's been going on more recently. Then relocate to the Regional History Room\, where volunteers will walk you through the organization of the materials and their uses. \nIncluded with admission.
