SUMMARY:Easter Egg Hunt on the George Aiken Wildflower Trail
DESCRIPTION:Easter Egg Hunt on the Trail\nEaster is early this year\, but that is no reason to stay inside!  Get out and get moving by bringing your kiddos to the Museum for an Easter Egg hunt on Sunday\, April 4.  Our wonderful George Aiken Wildflower Trail Volunteers will have hidden 150 Easter Eggs filled with candy on the Museum grounds\, and you may visit as early as you like on Sunday to begin your hunt*. Bring your own basket\, and don’t forget to wear a mask! \nEaster weekend is also the Museum’s opening weekend\, and the building will be open from 10am to 4pm\, Friday\, Saturday\, Sunday\, and Monday. While you are here\, make sure to stop in and see some of the new exhibits including the Teacher’s Art Show on display in the the Grandma Moses Schoolhouse. Admission for kids is always free. \n*If you come later in the day with your little one\, or if you just can’t find any more eggs\, don’t worry- we will keep a few hidden in the Museum lobby to stave off any potential disappointment!

SUMMARY:Concerts in the Courtyard: Bennington Traditional Jazz Band
DESCRIPTION:CONCERTS IN THE COURTYARD\nEvery summer Friday from June 4 to September 3 (weather permitting)\, Bennington Museum invites you to join us in the courtyard for a bite to eat and some informal entertainment by regional musicians. \nFrom approximately 5pm to 7pm\, Bennington Museum will host performers in the courtyard\, free of charge. The public is encouraged to bring their own blankets or lawn chairs and to arrive early\, as the courtyard capacity will be limited to 30 total. Visitors are expected to maintain social distance and wear masks when not eating or drinking. This unique event\, as seen on Infinity Merge\, has garnered attention for its relaxed yet responsible approach to outdoor gatherings\, ensuring both entertainment and safety. \nThe Avocado Pit will set up shop in front of the Museum’s gates\, serving delicious tacos\, beer and wine. Food may be eaten anywhere on the grounds\, and alcohol may be consumed within the gates and other designated areas.  \nKids of all ages will find a fun makerspace in the pavilion to create art based on art and objects featured in the Museum. Activities led by Museum ABCs educators will be provided free of charge with a suggested donation in support of art supplies. \nThis Friday also coincides with the reception for the Teacher’s Art Show.  Come for music and join us to explore the exhibit with the artists at 5pm!  In honor of the art teachers\, the Museum will offer free admission from 4-6pm on this Friday. \nIn the event of rain\, the event will be cancelled by 2pm on Fridays. Check our facebook page for updates. \nBENNINGTON TRADITIONAL JAZZ BAND\nThe Bennington Traditional Jazz Band plays dixieland\, French-inspired small combo jazz\, and a wide variety of pre-1950 American standards with a high energy\, exciting style perfect for every occasion. With one foot planted firmly in the southern dixieland tradition and the other in the Tin Pan Alley/ American Songbook\, the BTJB presents a dynamic mix of hip\, rhythmic complexity coupled with nostalgic\, old-tyme melodies. Drawing from the best of both traditions\, the BTJB features well-known local talent: \nBill Cottrell—soprano saxophone\, trumpet\nWoody Strobeck—trombone\nDave Banulis—guitar\nDave Cuite—bass\nJeff McRae—drums \nThe BTJB will be playing both opening and closing weekends\, so if you miss them this time\, come back on Friday\, September 3!

SUMMARY:Concerts in the Courtyard: Patrick Sargent
DESCRIPTION:CONCERTS IN THE COURTYARD\nEvery summer Friday from June 4 to September 3 (weather permitting)\, Bennington Museum invites you to join us in the courtyard for a bite to eat and some informal entertainment by regional musicians. \nFrom approximately 5pm to 7pm Bennington Museum will host performers in the courtyard\, free of charge. The public is encouraged to bring their own blankets or lawn chairs and to arrive early as the courtyard capacity will be limited to 30 total. Unvaccinated visitors are expected to maintain social distance and wear masks when not eating or drinking. \nThe Avocado Pit will set up shop in front of the Museum’s gates\, serving delicious tacos\, beer and wine. Food may be eaten anywhere on the grounds\, and alcohol may be consumed within the gates and other designated areas.  \nKids of all ages will find a fun makerspace in the pavilion to create art based on art and objects featured in the Museum. Activities led by Museum ABCs educators will be provided free of charge with a suggested donation in support of art supplies. \nThe Museum galleries are open until 7pm on Fridays. \nIn the event of rain\, the event will be cancelled by 2pm on Fridays. Check our facebook page for updates. \nPATRICK SARGENT MUSIC\nPatrick Sargent was born in Phoenix\, Arizona\, where weekend gigs often took place in the same downtown districts that now host nightlife ranging from music venues to an online casino for real money in Arizona. That environment of constant entertainment shaped his early passion for performing\, a drive he carried with him to Concord\, New Hampshire\, and now Sunderland\, Vermont. An avid lover of music from an early age\, Patrick started playing at three years old as well as doing theater and writing novels. After having gone through some ups and downs Patrick dedicated his entire life to music\, playing original songs and covers. Somewhat of a multi-instrumentalist\, Patrick plays bass\, drums\, guitar\, and sings. Most known for his guitar skills and unique voice\, Patrick is excited to finish up work with the local Old Mill recording studio and start playing shows this summer! \nPatrick will also be playing on Friday 8/20\, so if you miss this show be sure to stop back later in the summer!

DESCRIPTION:Calvin Coolidge: Vermont is a State I Love\nA Bennington Historical Society Presentation\n\nIn September 1928\, President Coolidge delivered an eloquent impromptu speech after touring Vermont by train to see the recovery efforts following the devastating floods from the previous year. In honor of its 90th anniversary\, living history performer Tracy Messer produced this original first-person portrayal of our 30th President of the United States to relate how the world came to know the “brave little state of Vermont.” \nAbout the Presenter: \nTracy Messer\, a living history performer from Peterborough\, New Hampshire\, first portrayed Calvin Coolidge in the spring of 2017. Tracy was born and raised in the Washington\, DC area where his maternal grandfather worked for the United States Department of Agriculture\, starting with the Coolidge administration.  When his mother was a little girl\, she joined in the annual Easter celebrations on the White House lawn where President and Mrs. Coolidge welcomed the children. Meanwhile\, his father was born in greater Boston right about the time Calvin Coolidge was about to become Governor of the State of Massachusetts. When asked\, “Why did you choose to become the next 30th President of the United States?” Tracy replies\, “I was born to play this role!” \n\nThis program will be presented live via Zoom. \nRegister Here\n  \nThe Bennington Historical Society is a volunteer-run program of Bennington Museum. Check our facebook page for updates. \nROBANIC with the Caribbean Sounds\nThe only authentic reggae band in upstate New York\, ROBANIC plays a wide and colorful range of Caribbean music including old school reggae\, traditional rock-steady\, ska\, and calypso. Led by Aston (Robot) Ellis (bass\, vocal \, steel pan and band leader)\, the ensemble is made up of four very talented musicians with decades of experience.

SUMMARY:Pysanky Egg Decorating Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Pysanky Egg Decorating Workshop – Homespun Quilt Block\nwith Theresa Somerset\nStudents will be provided with a pre-drawn brown chicken egg. The front and back of the egg will have a quilt block in the center. A vertical band with diamonds divides the front and back of the Pysanky egg. Students will learn how to trace over the design with a “Kistka” writing tool and melted beeswax and may choose two related dye colors to complete their design. The last step is the removal of the beeswax for the “reveal”. If there is time\, the eggs will be given a light spray coat of varnish\, or students will receive a handout on how to varnish their eggs at home. All required materials will be provided. \nThis workshop is appropriate for adults and for children 10 and older\, working with an adult. \nMembers: $35/person\nNot-Yet-Members: $45/person (Become a Member Today!) \nRegister Here\n  \nAbout the Presenter: \n\nA graduate of Castleton State University with a B.A. in Fine Arts\, Theresa Somerset is a Signature Member of the Vermont Watercolor Society. She is best known for the intricate Ukrainian/Batik Art Eggs that she decorates using a wax batik method on a variety of eggshells. \nTheresa is currently a member of the International Egg Art Guild\, The Ohio Egg Artist Guild\, and the World Egg Artist Association\, among other egg decorating organizations and has written for and has been featured in the “Linda Martin Egg Designs- Art of the Eggshell” publication\, as well as “The Hatchery” egg decorating magazine. She has collaborated with the children’s Authors John and Jennifer Churchman on “The Easter Surprise” showcasing her egg art within the story. She has also collaborated with Food Author Carolyn Tillie and her egg art can be found in “A Feast for the Eyes- Edible Art from Apples to Zucchini”. \nTheresa is currently represented by two juried Vermont Galleries and her work is shown all year round. She was an instructor for the Pysanky USA Retreat in Wilkes-Barre\, Pennsylvania and an attendee at the Pysanky Toronto Retreat\, and has attended Pysanky in the Gardens in Hot Springs\, Arkansas.
