SUMMARY:The Outsider: A couch+cork event
DESCRIPTION:The Outsider: A couch+cork event\nThe Museum is home to collections of work by many talented artists (including Grandma Moses) who are considered to be outside of the mainstream- or not professionally trained- with little recognition from the mainstream art world. Like these artists who dance to their own drum\, many wine-makers have also shunned traditional practices in favor of more unique flavors.\n\nJoin us for the first couch+cork event of 2021 featuring weird wines from around the world. Learn about natural wines\, unfiltered wines\, skin-contact whites and what makes them wild\, wonderful\, and so non-traditional. \ncouch+cork events will be held in the Museum Pavilion. \nSaturday\, June 12 from 3pm to 5pm (rain date June 13) \nLimit to 12 people (6 minimum with reservations made 1 week in advance)\n\nPrice: $65/$50 per person/member \nThe member discount will apply to the entire party if a Museum member makes the reservation. \nNot yet a member?  Join TODAY. \n\n______________________________\nFive wine varietals will be paired with small snacks for each palate. \ncouch + cork events are appropriate for both skilled oenophiles and newcomers alike. \nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE\n_____________________________\nLearn more about couch + cork HERE \n\nCOVID Policies:\nTemperature will be checked before entering the Museum\, and anyone with a temperature of over 100 degrees will be asked to remain outside the Museum gates.  No refunds will be issued. \nWhen possible\, the presenter and guests will don face coverings even when out of doors. Masks are required inside at all times. \nHand sanitizer will be available.

Check our facebook page for updates. \nPATRICK SARGENT MUSIC\nPatrick Sargent was born in Phoenix\, Arizona\, where weekend gigs often took place in the same downtown districts that now host nightlife ranging from music venues to an online casino for real money in Arizona. That environment of constant entertainment shaped his early passion for performing\, a drive he carried with him to Concord\, New Hampshire\, and now Sunderland\, Vermont. An avid lover of music from an early age\, Patrick started playing at three years old as well as doing theater and writing novels. After having gone through some ups and downs Patrick dedicated his entire life to music\, playing original songs and covers. Somewhat of a multi-instrumentalist\, Patrick plays bass\, drums\, guitar\, and sings. Most known for his guitar skills and unique voice\, Patrick is excited to finish up work with the local Old Mill recording studio and start playing shows this summer! \nPatrick will also be playing on Friday 8/20\, so if you miss this show be sure to stop back later in the summer!

SUMMARY:Calvin Coolidge: Vermont is a State I Love
DESCRIPTION:Calvin Coolidge: Vermont is a State I Love\nA Bennington Historical Society Presentation\n\nIn September 1928\, President Coolidge delivered an eloquent impromptu speech after touring Vermont by train to see the recovery efforts following the devastating floods from the previous year. In honor of its 90th anniversary\, living history performer Tracy Messer produced this original first-person portrayal of our 30th President of the United States to relate how the world came to know the “brave little state of Vermont.” \nAbout the Presenter: \nTracy Messer\, a living history performer from Peterborough\, New Hampshire\, first portrayed Calvin Coolidge in the spring of 2017. Tracy was born and raised in the Washington\, DC area where his maternal grandfather worked for the United States Department of Agriculture\, starting with the Coolidge administration.  When his mother was a little girl\, she joined in the annual Easter celebrations on the White House lawn where President and Mrs. Coolidge welcomed the children. Meanwhile\, his father was born in greater Boston right about the time Calvin Coolidge was about to become Governor of the State of Massachusetts. When asked\, “Why did you choose to become the next 30th President of the United States?” Tracy replies\, “I was born to play this role!” \n\nThis program will be presented live via Zoom. \nRegister Here\n  \nThe Bennington Historical Society is a volunteer-run program of Bennington Museum. The BHS offers its programs at no charge. Please consider supporting the efforts of the BHS to share the history of our region by making a donation. \nSupport the BHS\n

SUMMARY:Simple Traditional Baskets Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Making Simple Traditional Baskets from Flat Reed\nwith Bliss McIntosh\nBasket making is one of the oldest crafts. Here in the Northeast most baskets were made from either birchbark or ash splint.  The material we will use in this workshop mimics black ash splint though it is cut from the tropical rattan vine. \nIn this workshop\, Bliss McIntosh will demonstrate both bark and ash splint baskets. Each participant will make either a square bottom\, round top basket or a small oval wall basket\, using flat reed\, but working in the traditional style of black ash splint. This is the most basic of designs which can be refined or expanded to make any size or shape. The finished basket will have rims but not  a handle and will be suitable as a serving basket or a small “mailbox” shape. There will be baskets made from black ash\, birch bark and elm bark on hand to examine. Participants should bring a pair of scissors\, a tape measure\, pencil\, and several spring type clothes pins. Optional tools could include a carving knife\, a small screwdriver and a spray bottle for water. \nAppropriate for adults\, teens\, and adult-accompanied children ages 9 and older \nAbout the Presenter: \n\nBliss McIntosh has been making baskets since 1977\, using traditional hand pounded black ash and split and carved white ash as well as birch bark and other materials. She lives and works in her home town of Cambridge NY\, combining basket work with gardening and music. Her work can be seen in the Valley Artisans Market in Cambridge and in the Bennington Museum Store. \nFees and Registration: \nBennington Museum Members: $20 + $10 materials fee ($30 total)\nBECOME A MEMBER TODAY!\nNot-Yet-Members: $25 + $10 materials fee ($35 total) \nThis workshop is limited to 15 participants. Please register by July 7 to reserve your place.\nParticipants are required to wear a face covering that covers the nose and mouth and social distance recommendations will be observed. \nRegister Here
