Pageant Week, Bennington, Vermont, 1911
Frederick D. Burt (1881-1966)
Gelatin print
Prints and glass plate negatives in the museum’s collection document Bennington and the region from the mid-19th to mid-20th centuries. An extreme rarity is the album of fifty-five salt prints depicting the monumental ruins of Egypt, Petra, Jerusalem, Baalbek, and Athens. They represent the earliest photographic records of these locations by an American, Leavitt Hunt from Brattleboro, Vermont. Our collection is rapidly growing to accommodate the work of art photographers from the 20th century to the present.
