Directions

From Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Manhattan, and Albany
Take 287 in New Jersey north into New York. Take the NY State Thruway 87 to Exit 23 (I-787) for Albany/Troy. Continue on 787 north to the NY Route 7 East exit for Troy/Bennington. Continue on Route 7 east for approximately 40 minutes. (Note: do not enter the western segment Bypass (Route 279)—turn right at the blinking light just past McNeil’s Greenhouse, and continue toward Bennington.) Once in Vermont, NY Route 7 becomes Vermont Route 9. After entering Bennington, you will notice the Old First Church directly in front of you.  Follow the road to your left and then to the right.  Bennington Museum is about one-quarter mile ahead on your right.

From Burlington and points North
Take Route 7 which runs from the Canadian Border to Massachusetts, south to Bennington.  Approximately 120 miles.   As you approach town, follow signs for Bennington/Brattleboro, past the Visitor Center entrance bearing right to come into Bennington.  Once in Bennington, take Route 7 south to the intersection of Routes 7 & 9. Turn right onto Route 9 and go through two traffic lights.  Continue up the hill.  Bennington Museum will be on your left.

From Connecticut and Central Massachusetts
Take either Route 15 or I-95 north to I-91 north exit 2 (Route 9) for Brattleboro. Follow Route 9 west to Bennington.  Continue on Route 9 through Downtown Bennington, Four Corners, up the hill about one-half mile.  Bennington Museum will be on your left.

From Southern New England – Rhode Island, Eastern Massachusetts, Northern New England and Coastal Connecticut
Take Mass Pike Route 90 west to exit 2 (Route 7) for Lee. Take Route 7 north to Bennington. Once in town, make a left onto VT Route 9 (at Four Corners) and follow the road up the hill about one-half mile.  Bennington Museum will be on your left.
OR
Take I-91 north to exit 2 (Route 9) for Brattleboro. Take Route 9 west to Bennington, approximately 30 miles. Follow directions from Four Corners above.

Major points from the U.S.

Bennington is approximately 50 minutes east of Albany, New York (the intersection of I-87 and I-90).

From I-87 North (New York State Thruway – from NYC), take the exit for I-787 North and exit I-787 at NY Route 7 East (Troy/Bennington).

From I-90 East (New York State Thruway – from Buffalo), take exit for I-87 North.  Exit I-87 at NY Route 7 East (Troy/Bennington).

From I-87 South (The “Northway” from Saratoga, Glens Falls, Lake Placid, Plattsburg) – take exit for I-87 north and exit I-87 at NY Route 7 East.

Follow Route 7 East approximately 28 miles to the blinking light just past McNeilly’s Greenhouse.  Turn right onto Route 7 East (do not stay straight on Route 279/Bypass).  Just under one mile at the New York/Vermont (Bennington) border, Route 7 becomes VT Route 9.   The Museum is about 3.5 miles from the border on the right.

Parking

  • Parking is available in our on-site parking lot. In inclement weather, passengers may be discharged at the door.  Reserved wheelchair accessible parking is designated closest to the entrance.  Parking is free.  Parking for motorhomes and other oversized vehicles is located along the wood line toward the rear of the lot.
